Cargoes

John Masefield
Quinquireme
of Nineveh from distant Ophir
Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine,
With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine.

A quinquireme was a Roman ship which had 5 rows of oars - in Greek they were called penteres (can you think of any words in English to do with 5 which have pent in them? They were the original heavy warships, until polyremes were built. You could also have triremes and quadriremes.
